Picnic Day 4/16

It's this time of the year again(sounds like I've been in Davis before LOL). There is this "Picnic Day" event in UC Davis, which is one of largest student event in the U.S. From what I heard, there is gonna be a lot going on, such as animal events, exhibits, parades, club demonstration, student-organization faire, multicultural children faire, and such. UCD is proud to present Picnic Day as this showcases its richness, diversity and achievement and also nearby communities' contribution as in different arenas, such as teaching and campus life. Yet, this Picnic Day is not all sunshine and roses as over the previous years, the daytime patrol or policemen in general had made several arrest on the account of public intoxication and drunken driving. Also, the campus became littered with beer cans and garbages. As a consequence, the Picnic Day came under fire and a cancellation threat had been issued last year. Thus, this year's Picnic Day is very crucial as it's trying to save the Picnic Day. For that reason also, the theme of the Picnic Day is "rewind." And students are encouraged to sign a pledge to act responsibly during the event.
Picnic day is otherwise a lively and family-friendly event, as I can say from what I got to see and experience today. Around 9, I met Hide at UCD bookstore, and then we wandered the campus. The fair wasn't all set yet, but the parade was ready to go. We thus blended into the crowd and got a vantage point where we watched the long parade that included UCD marching band, cheer leading team, unitrans, bike riders, horse riders, hybrid cars, international house (students holding flags of their home countris), and what not. Here are some of the pictures of the parade.

Moving on, we went to grab something for lunch at the East Quad, where there were a bunch of food stands. I had Korean BBQ tacos at this stand.

Much later, we went to the ARC, where there were different club demonstration, such Hapkido club, fencing club, and Hide's judo club. So, I was in the judo room, watching Hide wrestling with his teammates for 20 minute. Hide kept throwing his opponents and showed some judo techniques. No wonder he's a black belt holder!!!!

After the demo, we were off to the cow farm and wanted to milk the cow. On our way there, we stopped by a frisbee dog competition. Each dog would have to get as many frisbee as the could in one minute. They were really well-trained. Also, we went sorta out of the way to honey-tasting, maggot art, and more. Yet, I was late for cockroach racing, which sounded cool to me. At last, I did milk the cow and was happy that I can cross this out of my thing-to-do-before-I-die list. Afterwards, we just went our separate ways....
